“Paddy Cum Fish Culture” is the integration of fish farming and rice cultivation. This system is profitable and sustainable as two crops, namely rice and fish, can be harvested from one cultivated area. The wet terraced rice fields, where sufficient surface and groundwater are available, can be used for the development of rice and fish farming. This farming system has been practiced in recent years mainly in the East and West Khasi Hills districts. Introduction of rice and fish farming will provide avenues for self-employment, augment farmers' income and increase fish production in the state.
