Cultivation of flower crops

The agro-climatic diversity of the district, with its high rainfall spread over a four-month monsoon and a reasonably temperate winter, enables the cultivation of a wide variety of floral crops. Flowers like jasmine, rose, tuberose, marigold, sunflower etc. are the main commercial ornamental plants grown in this area. However, the productivity of most ornamental plants in the district is quite low compared to the average of all northeastern states as well as some agriculturally important states of India. Therefore, promoting this activity will improve employment opportunities and income generation opportunities especially for women in the district. Furthermore, flowers are now a popular market, especially in urban areas.
