The demand for horticultural crops, especially those that bear fruits and flowers, is increasing in both urban and rural areas of Meghalaya. A strong demand for ornamental and flowering plants is observed during the festive season. Nurseries have therefore been established on a large scale in most of the northeastern states. There is an urgent need to promote tree nurseries in the district to ensure the safety of ecology and environment. Due to demand, marketing nursery plants is becoming increasingly important across the country. The ease of procurement, low maintenance and cost efficiency allow the market to continue to grow. Furthermore, increasing awareness among the population will further boost the growth of the market.
